This was my first time going to a casino with the self-serve beverage areas - soft drinks and coffee. I played a little vp - paytables were really bad (6-5 JOB?) I had a good time loinsg that $90 back to the casino, playing familiar and not-so-familiar slot games. But I wasn 't there to take home $90 either, I was there for MORE fun. And yes, Glinda was kind to me to the tune of about $90. But I wasn't there to take back $50, I had the need for fun! So off to the Wizard of Oz slots. Enjoyed a Groucho themed slot, which I'd only seen in Vegas once. So signed up (the staff person then gave me the logo'd stick pen - a nice touch) and actually got the $25 up to about $50. I had found a brochure in a brochure rack in our Salina Kansas hotel for the Prairie band, with a $25 freeplay coupon for new card members. Next impression - lots of current slot machines, including the infamous Wizard of Oz slots. My first impression - sure was in the middle of nowhere, and there is lots of nowhere in Kansas! My second impression - two security gentlemen at the door, who both held the doors open for me. I just went up for the morning, driving 30 minutes from my cousin's house in Topeka, so I didn't try any of the restaurants or the hotel. They also have poker and table games, a buffet, and coffee shop, a steak house and about 300 hotel rooms. Their website says they have around 1,000 slots. One of their employees told me Harrahs used to operate the site, but are no longer involved. Prairie Band Casino and Resort is a property of the Potawatomi Nation. I just completed a 10 day excursion across the great state of Kansas, escorting my New York state based Mom on a grand tour of all the Kansas relatives (she is a Kansas native, but has lived in NY for 55 years now.) I drove 700 miles around the state, never stayed more than 2 nights in one place, saw lots of relatives, endured weather that included 102 degrees and humid, torrential rain, and a tornado warning, ate in many mediocre chain restaurants, slept on 6 different beds in 9 nights (if you count my aunt's pullout couch as a bed.)Īnd what was my reward?
